Born in 1943 in Helsinki of Finnish parents who migrated to Venezuela when Kirsti was a child, Kirsti has received her inspiration from the intense colors, the nature and the women of Latin America and the tropics. 'The Latin woman is sensual. the sea is sensual and plants are sensual' says Kirsti, pointing out that in the places she finds her inspiration, men are invariably absent.

Kirsti Alopaeus currently lives and paints in her home on the Riviera Maya in southern Mexico. In the past she has also spent considerable time between her Mexico City Studio and the beach resort of Zihuatanejo, Guerrero.
